Nijjiseiki (also known as 20th century) Yellow meduim sized fruit with green mottling, tender skinned, crisp and juicy with refreshing tartness. 11-13% sugar content, ripens late August, excellent storage life.
Chojuro Large greenish brown russetted fruit, course white flesh with rich spicy flavor and faint clove-like aftertaste. Aprox. 10-12% sugar, ripens late August, early September. Long storage life 3-4 months.
Shinseiki Very popular, yellow smooth skinned meduim to large fruit with a very crisp and juicy bright white flesh. Handle carefully - skin marks easily. Extremely sweet, 12-15% sugar, ripens early September, excellent storage life if not bruised.
Shinko Large, bronze with green to golden brown russetting. Corse yellowish flesh. Flavor is different when pealed. Skin has aslight walnut aftertaste 12-14% sugar, ripens late September to mid October. Stores 3-4 months.
Kikusui Large glossy green fruit, off-white extremely crisp flesh. Very tender-bruises easily. Often mistaken for 20th century. Excellent salad pear with light melon-like flavor and clean aftertaste. 11-13% sugar content, ripens mid to late August, with excellent holding 6-7months.
Kosui Meduim sized yellow bronze fruit with slight rissetting. Off-white flesh, extremely sweet and juicy dessert pear. Has a slight butterscotch flavor. 11-13% sugar content ripens mid to late August, short storage life. The farms favorite!!
Sosui Golden brown fuit with white speckles and off-white fine grained flesh. Meduim to large. Can be eaten pealed or out-of-hand..very juicy, It needs a napkin. Very rich dessert pear with clean flavor and delightful aftertaste. 12-15% sugar content, ripens late August to mid September, short shelf life 2-3 weeks.
Yakumo Meduim sized, oddly marked yellowish fruit. Thin skinned, crisp flesh eith ans unusual tropical-grapefruit like flavor and a delightful aftertaste. 10-12% sugar, ripens mid August, holds fairly well.
Jehibanashi Japanese for "Number One Pear" A recently developed variety, golden russetted skin, meduim sized fruit yellow flesh eith a mellow butterscotch flavor. 11-13% sugar, ripens early August. Has a short storage life 6 weeks.
Yoinashi A large attractive buff colored fruit with light russetting. Off-white, crisp, very juicy flesh. Carmel Flavored. 14-16% sugar content, ripens mid August. Stores 3-4 months.
Yonginashi A new variety developed by UC Davis. Toffee colored, meduim sized fruit with crisp white flesh, mild butterscotch flavor. 11-13% sugar (no acid) ripens mid August.
